Summer Splash
June 26 - July 17
PRESS RELEASE
Dive into summer with Panopticon Gallery’s exhibition, Summer Splash! Whether you’re hanging out poolside, seaside, or lake lounging, Summer Splash has something for every water-lover. This group exhibition features photographs by Amy Friend, Daniel Jackson, Jane Krensky, Jen Ervin, Kristianne Koch Riddle, Diana H. Bloomfield, and Jennifer McClure; each inspired by summertime’s wet and wonderful whimsy.
Amy Friend and Daniel Jackson’s photographs invite memories of summers spent at the lake—Friend’s use of pinpricks of light are reminiscent of fireflies at dusk, while Jackson’s tableaus of floating, fishing, and diving off of the dock are timeless summertime traditions. Photographing her family’s riverside cabin in South Carolina, Jen Ervin’s ethereal black-and-white Polaroids stir nostalgia for childhood.
At the seaside, Jane Krensky’s hand-colored vintage photographs of beach goers and Diana H. Bloomfield’s gum bichromate prints have the “wish you were here” aesthetic of a postcard. One can’t help but feel the pull of currents in Kristianne Koch Riddle’s large-scale diptychs of ocean waves. From her half-submerged lens, she places us in the role of the swimmer. Underneath the chlorinated swimming pool waters, Jennifer McClure’s figure sinks into a swirl of bubbles in her lonely yet serene poolside moments. Escape the dog days of summer by dipping into Panopticon Gallery to enjoy this exhibition.
Summer Splash is on view from June 26 to September 4. The gallery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Gallery staff is available Monday through Saturday 10am to 6pm.
